Big Time Beach Party 

First things first, congratulations Big Time Rush! Now, this is my favorite BTR episode, and when I realized I was doing 60s March, I knew I had to include this episode. It’s chock full of 60s references that I can’t help but absolutely love to the point of obsession. This cocktail is good, clean beach party fun with a dash of misunderstanding and crazy antics. 

Big Time Beach Party Cocktail
3 oz Bubble Up
1 oz Strawberry Liqueur
1 oz Rum
2 TSP Cream of Coconut

Combine ingredients in a mixer with ice. Shake well and pour over ice into a glass. Garnish with strawberries. 

It’s the end of 60s March, but the beginning of 90s Kids April - you better believe it’s going to be even more awesome.

Big Time Movie Thursday - The Beetle

Well it’s the last Big Time Movie cocktail. But no need to cry my young ones! This drink is too awesome for that! This cocktail is destructive and defies gravity. 

The Beetle Cocktail
2 oz Blood Orange Soda
1 oz Vodka
1 oz Tonic Water
1/2 oz  Peppermint Schnapps
Dash of Bitters

Combine ingredients in a mixer with ice and shake. Pour over ice into a glass.

British Invasion Night: “Lola” by The Kinks

If you’re wondering why I chose this song to represent The Kinks on British Invasion Night…you need to take another good hard listen to this song. This cocktail is strong and all man, but so sweet it fools you. 

“Lola” Cocktail
3 1/2 oz Cola
1 1/2 oz Cherry Liqueur
1 1/2 oz Sweet Vermouth
1 oz Whiskey
Maraschino Cherry

Combine ingredients in a mixer with ice and shake. Pour over ice into a glass and garnish with a popped cherry. 

Drinking too many of these will cause you to do things you may regret or not understand while you’re drunk…like have sex with a transvestite…

1 oz Hendrick’s Gin
1 oz Sweet Vermouth
1 oz Tonic Water
1/2 oz Sweet Pickled Watermelon Rind (Sounds weird, but trust me, it works.)
1/2 oz Maraschino Cherry Juice

Combine ingredients in a mixer with ice and shake. Pour into a martini glass and garnish with a popped cherry. 

This cocktail is equal parts dirty, sweet, alluring, and sometimes strange with a dash of undeniable appeal.

Penny Lane Cocktail
3 oz Blood Orange Juice
1 oz Vodka
1 oz X Rated Liqueur
1 oz Sweet Vermouth 

Combine ingredients in a mixer with ice and shake. Pour over ice into a glass and garnish with a flower.

British Invasion Night: “Sunshine Superman” by Donovan

Being one of his most famous songs (other than “Mellow Yellow”), “Sunshine Superman” is as catchy as it is odd in its experimental and spectacular lyrics and music. This cocktail is determined and flirty with a dash of superpowers. 

“Sunshine Superman” Cocktail
3 oz Italian Lemon Soda
2 oz Vodka
1/8 Cup of Fresh Lemon Juice
1 TSP Orange Blossom Honey
Strawberry
Basil 

Muddle about 3 small strawberries and 6 small basil leaves in 2 oz of vodka. Strain into a mixer and add the other ingredients with ice. Shake and pour over ice into a glass. Garnish with lemon rind or a strawberry.

Graduate Tuesdays, Are You Trying To Seduce Me? - Elaine Robinson, Scarborough Fair

In the movie, “Scarborough Fair” by Simon and Garfunkel represented Elaine as Ben’s lost love. This drink represents the sweetness and beauty of Elaine, but with the dreamy flavors of what Elaine represented to Ben, which was something worth fighting for. 

“Scarborough Fair” Cocktail
2 oz Tonic Water
1 1/2 oz Hendrick’s Gin
1/2 oz Ginger Syrup
Blueberries
Fresh Rosemary
Fresh Sage

Muddle about 20 blueberries, 4 leaves of Sage, and one stem (about 3 inches long) of Rosemary in gin.  Strain into a mixer and add the tonic water, ginger syrup and ice. Shake and pour over ice into a glass. Garnish with a few leaves of rosemary, sage, and a blueberry.

Big Time Movie Thursdays: “We Can Work It Out” Cocktail

Oh, I love this song. Their version is so just so good, and that video was just perfect. This drink is sweet and unsure, peaceful and relaxing, but with a dash of exhaustive fighting. 

“We Can Work It Out” Cocktail
3 oz Lemon-Lime Soda
1/2 oz Cream of Coconut
1 oz Hendrick’s Gin
One Dash of Angostura Bitters
White Daisy (Garnish)

Combine ingredients in a mixer. Shake and pour over ice into a glass. Garnish with a white daisy. (Note: I used a yellow Gerber Daisy because that’s all I had, but if you’ve seen the video, you know that should be a simple white daisy.) 

If this cocktail can’t help you forgive and forget, I don’t know what will.

Graduate Tuesdays, Are You Trying to Seduce Me? - The Mrs. Robinson Manhattan

Oh, Mrs. Robinson. How can you not love this complex and miserable housewife who has an affair with her family friends’ son? This drink is part “Mrs. Robinson, you’re trying to seduce me,” with a dash of lost dreams, confusion and a touch of, ahem, experience, ahem. 

Mrs. Robinson Manhattan
1 oz Bourbon
1 oz Vermouth
3/4 TSP Dark Brown Sugar
1/2 Cup Steeped Earl Grey Black Tea and Jasmine Green Tea 

Steep one tea bag each of earl grey and jasmine tea in 1/2 cup of boiling water. Steep for about 6 minutes (you want it to be a little bitter.) In a mixer, add all the ingredients and stir well to make sure you dissolve the brown sugar. Add ice and stir again. Strain over ice into a glass and garnish with a popped cherry.
